90' BORN (Our Escape)

Let's continue the fun running away for the things which was 'TOOFANI' for us. And those 'TOOFANI' things decided our character in the society. Today, we people laugh at the irrational thoughts of the society as this is still typical. We were around 13 in early 2003 and we entered the senior class, half pants to full pants, pencil to pen, our fun zone included some more stuffs such as movies, gambling (on a small circle of Re 1 or 2) etc. As the last blog ended with the sweet memories of movies but the real fun starts here when we started to escape.
Along with books, our bags used to carry casual dress and we bunked  school. The fear of getting caught was always there but without fear there is no 'TOOFAN' and when our mission got accomplished, that feeling could not be expressed. We used to run as far as 20 km for movie  and stole money for the tickets. That was the time of VCR which later on converted into DVD and the cassette of VCR was big and we used to hire them to watch the latest movies๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š. And within those days the era of VCR had just ended and DVD came into the market. Scenario was same just the version changed. The actual fun of watching movies was in single screen theaters. The struggle for the tickets, hooting, whistling etc etc.
We started playing cards during the holidays in a secret place so that no one could see us because it was a crime for the children. And we spent hardly 1 or 2 Rs to just make the game entertaining. And we played from sun to moon and our parents spent their time in finding us and we got nice beating and scolding as they got afraid by the thought of our safety. We used to spend the winning money in our evening snacks and those who lost, they where also the part of that party therefore that meant 'ghar ka paisa ghar me'๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.
Fare visiting was fun for us just to have a look to the beautiful girls so that we can also have a girlfriend but that was not in our fate๐Ÿ˜‚. Different swings, circus, maut ka kuan, and some magic tricks, we used to spend time on them after from the hard luck for girls. We didn't have that much interest on toys or eating, its like 'apne time ki baat hi alag thi'.

90's BORN (Our Movies)

Movies and our tashan after watching them was astounding if you look back to the memories. 90's movies were the best we experienced in terms of entertainment. Copying to the each and every style of the Hero of the movie. After watching the movie, I used to be one of the character  for few days performing the same genre in real life. I remember Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakroborty, Rishi Kapoor, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan, Sunil Shetty, JackiShroff,Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt were the kings of the industry and Manisha Koirala, Mamta Kulkarni, Kajol,Juhi Chawla, Meenakshi Shishadri,Raveena Tondon were the charm of the industry.
MY favourite genre was action and therefore Ajay Devgan, Sunny Deol, Akshay Kumar were my favourite and I became the action hero of the mohallah ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚. Also the KHALNAYAK, aka Sanjay Dutt created a huge buzz with his brilliant performance in VAASTAV...Remember....50 tolaaaaa?
I used to perform different actions on the grounds, mohallah and the dialouges, that too with same enthusiasm.
Karan Arjun was my favourite. 'Bhag arjun bhag', the iconic song 'ye bandhan to'.I remember the madness I had for the film. Shahrukh Khan was the favourite of every family member or you can say the 'Beta' of every mother. Everyone loved and blessed him. He was the only actor who made everyone cry by his performance and the same scenario continued in the early 2000. He made us feel the Romance and was bestowed with the title of THE KING OF ROMANCE. The iconic, trend setter and heart winning DILWALE DULHANIYA LE JAYENGE is a marvel and continues to be popular among the youths of the present decade as well. Its difficult to describe the emotions people feel for this gem. SRK was the icon and everyone copied him and tried to become the lover boy of the Mohallah.
Copying their styles, flirting, liking someone it was both amazing and funny. Just open the box of your memories and you will be smiling. The songs of the time were the best and I listen to those melodies today as well. Running for movies was difficult that time and so I started it in 2000 when I entered my teens and that was the beginning of love, action and drama. But the action happened twice, one which we did in the city and another which we got inside the house and trust me, the inside house action used to be more adventurous than outside.
I remember the robbery scenes from the movies and together with the gang, we used to perform it in the darkness on strangers using sticks and plastic guns as our weapons. Once I targeted my Uncle and 'jo sutai hui,ki andhera aankhon ke samne tha, or phir ujala nai hua'๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.
Songs of our time was so fab that now they are in a que of remake. 'Koi na koi chahiye', 'tu cheejh badi hai mast mast'. Shyaris were epic in the movies and those shyari's helped a lot to impress the girls 'mujhe to apno ne loota gairon me kahan dum tha, meri kashti thi doobi wahan jahan pani kam tha'.Aamir Khan's 'jo jeeta wohi sikandar' was the motivation movie for us 'hari baazi ko jeetna jise aata hai'.
Family movies such as ' hum sath sath hain' hum aapke hain kaun', masterpieces from the Rajshree Productions, always brought the family together.  Salman Khan and his character PREM' was adored by everyone.I don't think such movies exist in this era.
The actual fun started when we started to escape with our group for movies and rest of the things which you will find in the next blog till then just smile with the sweet throwback of sweet movie memory.

90's BORN

Realised during this quarantine period, how lucky we were to experience the warmth and essence of togetherness back in the 90s. Gathering for morning tea, breakfast, lunch, what is going to be prepared for evening snacks and who is going to prepare it and then dinner, planning for each other's taste, teasing each other, listening our elders talk about their youth  and childhood, laughter, fun, fight etc.The memories bring us close once again. Trust me, in these days we are going to create a box of memories and anyone can be diabetic after opening it.

We were born in the luckiest era of all time or you can say in 'the golden era'- the 90s. Today we are in our 20's and this blog is a throwback of how we journeyed. Everyone's life has different memories but those which I am going to put on,everyone will relate to them. Starting from today, I will give you your 14 best memories in these 14 days. The very first thing is ENTERTAINMENT. Only one Channel, DD National and the craziest moments it brought. Let's start:
1. Friday 9:30p.m movie๐Ÿ˜, Single small TV, gathering with dinner. Every Single member of the family, watching it. It was so amazing, nobody moved even to drink water, everybody just passed the order and everyone got pissed off when the head of the family interrupted to shut down at just 10:30 or 11 because of school the next day and work and such other tricks which exist even today, however unlike the present time, everyone obeyed and went to bed ( although murmuring๐Ÿ™‚ with one another). Saturday was almost same but movie ended because the next day was Sunday. We(little champs) never finished watching a movie because we always slept in between of it and mama, mummy, masi use to tease us in the morning๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚...
'Readers comment on this... is it true and add the things which you have done'.
Oh I can't wait to write about our childhood Sundays. Guys I bet today's children don't spend it like we did. From morning to 7 P.M. evening, 'oho' I want to live it again. 'RANGOLI' 1 hour, loud sound, ladies enjoyed their work listening to the songs, others enjoyed tea with the gathering, we used to come from the playground for Rangoli and breakfast and at the same time, we used to be in rush for the next game๐Ÿ™ƒ. CHANDRAKANTA 'KRUR SINGH' 'YAKUUUU' I don't thing anybody has forgotten, MAHABHARATA, RAMAYANA, SHREE KRISHNA . I remember Shree KRISHNA and CHANDRAKANTA being telecasted in the morning and confused a bit on MAHABHARATA and RAMAYANA's timing but I guess I have watched it. Children didn't wait for these on Sunday, rather they waited for their superhero SHAKTIMAAN, craziest serial among the children, how they managed to watch it only they know. Power cut issue was dealt by gathering at a friend's house which had secondary power source. All this endeavor so that not  a single scene was missed. ' Remember 90's BORNS' !!

And lastly the movie time which no one missed, evening snacks, tea, each and every family member, eldest to youngest๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜. I am writing with a smiling face.Memories, togetherness, love everything was present then.
Today we are nuclear, don't have time to spend the same phase we spent. Today, we only blame. We don't even have time for the funerals. How fast life changed na. From togetherness to single, joint to nuclear. Everyone at this phase of lockdown must be remembering those days as the only channel of that time once again has started the telecast of Ramayana,Mahabharata and Shaktimaan which has taken everyone on a rewind journey to the 90s and everyone once again sit together to watch the epics and enjoy a happy family time and relive the memories of the 90s.
Some of the series which came into existence after SHAKTIMAAN was 'Shaka Laka Boom Boom' which created a huge craze by its uniqueness of magic pencil, whatever Sanju drew, it became real.  Having a pencil as Sanju had was every child's wish and the market offered a variety of  replica of that pencil.'Son Pari', a complete fairytale drama, was also loved by children.

HANG IN THERE...WE WILL RELIVE OTHER MEMORIES IN THE COMING BLOG.

90s BORN (FESTIVALS)

As we entered our teens, we joined our elders in celebrating, basically organising the festivals. The two most important festivals were 'Saraswati Puja' and 'Durga Puja'. Different regions had different festivals but the fun and the attitude of celebrating them were same. There used to be different clubs who celebrated the same area wise. The preparation for the Saraswati Puja started 15 days before the Puja date and for Durga Puja it get started around 2 months before as it was celebrated on huge scale. It was like Saraswati Puja was for junior section(students) and Durga Puja was for the elder ones. But the fun was same. The preparation took its start with a budget planning and the funniest part came and that was roaming everywhere for 'CHANDA' (funds) or donations.
We used to visit every single house of the colony with a receipt to fill the moneybank required for the function. We used to stop every single vehicle crossing our area for 'Chanda'. It was a bit dominant but we were okay with it because it was not just festival, it was a celebration for everyone, for the society, a symbol of unity and togetherness and everyone seemed to enjoy it with their family. In 'Durga Puja' we came on highways and used to stop each and every bus and truck and private vehicles, from morning to evening and the best part was everybody displayed their best honest behavior, nobody took a single penny of the donation for personal use. We used to hire labourers for making an attractive 'pandal'(House of the Goddess) and placed order for the best 'Murty'. Managing the crowd till the Puja ceremony ended and Prasad distribution, announcements was fun among we children. There used to be a 'Bhandara' on a decided day to feed every single person who visited the pandal.
Then came the day of 'Visarjan'. Preparation was amazing every-time.Large truck, maximum number of boxes, symbol of every club used to be on head (headbands) and in the evening, journey started and it ended after 3-4 hours. We used to be super busy during those days but were always vibrant and now when we look back, we miss those precious days. We used to play, dance, watch movies on every night outside the 'Pandal'. Those nights used to be our nightouts.

90's BORN (Garmi Chutti)

Planning started as soon as we got the date of 'garmi chutti', the longest holiday. Till mid 90s, there was telephone booth. I remember that I used to call from the telephone booth my cousins, grandparents and rest family members. Every year gathering place changed. One year our house, next somewhere else. And we used to eagerly wait for summer vacations to start . Foods we would be eating each day was planned before, games, both indoor and outdoor, we hoped we would get new clothes too, a small amount of money from our parents 'don't bother anyone for anything'. And actually when I grew older,  I got the meaning of this particular statement 'don't bother anyone'. Parents had a far vision. And when the day finally arrived, our eyes were fixed at every bus which was going to stop at our destination.
From sitting on the first window seat to reaching the destination, the journey was always fun. Having street foods in between was amazing. And as the destination arrived, enthusiasm was all we felt and we knew that we would be enjoying the best part of the year to the fullest. We didn't touch books as we were totally carefree.
We played Gully cricket, yeh, morning to evening back to back games, no breakfast no lunch and no order was obeyed, it was our time.
We Roamed in the 'Mohallahs' having samosa and idly etc etc. The best part was, waking up late in the morning. Mangoes were the best part of the summer vacation, the only desert.
Having it anytime, stealing them from someone's garden was out of the world. Going to the ponds and rivers for bath and jumping in the water from the top level was too much fun. Throwing pebbles in the pond and competing how much jump it would take. Going to the market in the evening with our elders to have our favourite sweets is something we cherished the most. Using cool telcom powders was also fun.
Then the worst part was the visit of out parents to take us back and doing homework during that period made us realise that the golden time of the year was over. And only one thing was good while leaving the destination and that was getting some money with a sentence 'phir aana'.

90's BORN (Our Toffees)

Forget Dairy milk, if you want to see the passion for toffees and chocolates, lets go back to the humble world of 90s. I can remember the taste and craze for toffees, peppery pills and sweet suparis which was the kids' tashan then.Lets start with the peppery pill which was very famous and the only reason for many dialouges like 'beta chela chela hota hai'. I guess you recognized the name, yes it was 'Guru Chela'.
It was famous among us not only for the taste but also for the packet. The single picture reflected both Guru(boss) and Chela(follower) when turned upside down. We used to tease each other by turning the packet all time saying 'beta tu chela hai mera'.
Poppins, the most popular packet among us as the quantity was more with different colours and flavours. We could share it among the circle but we rarely did,.. 'it was toffee yaar' every child was fond of it and used to tease one another with that only.
Pan Pasand, a complete pan flavour toffee with anise(saunf) in it. Remember when it was in its last bite, the anise(saunf) tasted yum.

MangoBite used to be our sweets(kids sweet) by every single guest who was planning to visit us'beta dekho hum aapke liye kya laaye hain'. It set the taste and refreshed the mood too.

Kismi Bar was the bar with the strong taste of elaichi. It was the bar bought mostly for girls by their boyfriends. It was an epic chocolate with a small version as well.Even today I see it somewhere and buy it.

Pimpom was the only lollipop or you can say PimPom meant lollipop. The best part was the way we had it๐Ÿ˜‰.

Bigbabol, Boomer was our centerfresh. Every cricket match meant every player was having it in his mouth, making bubbles at different situation or sometimes to compete 'kiska kitna phholta hai, aur phat kar naak me chipak jana'๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.

There was a melted chocolate too 'choki choki' packed in a pen shaped wrapper, just cut the the wrapper and enjoyed the chocolate.

Parle toffee, the 25paise toffee, who can forget it, it was our birthday celebration toffee,we used to distribute it in the school on our birthday.

Cotton Candy the 'Hawa Mithai' for us and for rest of the world it was Cotton Candy. Even today it is available at every nook and corner of the city.
The digestive toffee of our time was SWAD. Present in every house๐Ÿ™‚.
Some more toffees for open selling but very famous among us and we could buy it in any quantity at any time and we also used to steal them from the shops๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.

Lets come to the mouthfreshener or sweet suparis- madhu, jojo, chutki prince etc. Bro it was a Tashan for us. It was our Rajnigandha. We used to have it in a manner that we were the 'dada' of the area and used to talk the same way while having it. We have got beaten for this when caught 'gal laal ho jate the yaar'.
I guess reading this and watching the pictures of the chocolates surely brought a smile on your face and took you to the journey of your memories related to chocolates๐Ÿ™‚.

90's BORN(Our Games)

Games, variety of games I used to play. When I think of games, a screenplay plays in front of my eyes, I see what I played and how I played. Messy hairs, torn clothes, dirty body, empty stomach, there was nothing I cared for except the games and how madly I managed to execute the plans and escaped from my house.Cricket, football, badminton, carrom, chess, pitto, hide n seek, kit kit(girls' game),anta(goli),wyapari, ludo.Lets start how amazing it was during that period as today's children also play games.

Kit kit, traditional girls' game, but every boy used to play it along with girls. A piece of plane stone(goti) and eight boxes house(drawn on ground) were the requisites to play the game. The stone was thrown to one of the boxes and the player was supposed to reach that box on one leg, continuously whispering kit-kit-kit-kit, without touching the lines of the boxes and once the box with the stone was reached, the player had to kick the stone out of the boxes without the stone getting stuck over the lines. If one put the leg down in between, the player was out.The best part was... we played it with girls.

Anta(goli), known by different names in different places.A small area was required to play the game and anyone could take part in the game. We used to play 3 or 4 different format of the game. The only talent required in the game was to aim and if you won the entire Anta is yours.
"Bahut maar khayi hai ise khelne me".
Football was so amazing to play during rainy season.Fully watery ground, raining and more than 22 players enjoying the game.Sliding on ground here and there with no requirement and who slid the most was the best player of the day.
Ludo along with snake and ladder was the craziest indoor game.It so too funny to cut the other one's Goti and to tease him or her.We tried different tricks to get the number 6 on board. We enjoyed the game with the family members too.Cricket was everyone's favorite game and the  scenario is same today also. Those who were good in chess were the intelligent personalities and they were going to light up the name of the family in coming time, 'I don't know how'.The logic was hilarious .Carrom used to be the night game for our elders. A big board with boric acid, drum where carrom is placed, a bulb hanging in center of the board and the game was on. We used to play on small board.

Gilli danda(game of tip Cat) was amazing, a big stick(danda) and a small piece (gilli). The longer distance you made that gilli travel with the stick, winning chances increased and gilli should be flipped with the help of stick (danda) only. If you missed, you lost.
Hide and seek in under construction buildings with a group and cheating while searching the players was amazing. Kabaddi which is now played at national level, we used to play it then and fought too. We also used to play Kho-Kho which seems to have gone out of fashion today as hardly anyone is seen playing it.
There were more such interesting games we used to play in 90s which do not exist today. At  that time, nobody gave attention to the attire while you roamed, played or at any function. Life was all about enjoying the moment and nobody at that time made anyone feel low.

90's BORN (School Days)

UPDATE: SHAKTIMAAN is back, the first superhero and the craze hasn't ended yet. Few times back I read a news that planning for Shaktimaan show is on and it will be shot with new techniques but the makers were confused about casting. So makers don't be confused as the original is back.
Today lets go on a throwback journey to our school days. How many of you were really concerned for studies? Seriously were you? Hahahaha, guys school was fun for us, not a burden. We learnt everything playfully.Limited books, study time was limited, playing time was more, no tension during exams, no such feeling of competition with others,we were happy in ourselves. Trust me the biggest relief for us was not so much family pressure or status kind of thing which today's children face. In today's ERA, children don't have time for themselves, the only thing they carry is burden and i.e, only for their parents' status or you can say 'showoff'.
How many of you remember the subjects and the teachers and how many of you wanted to be the teacher's favorite and how many of you were  badass like me but still teacher's favourite. That time students like us used to be the class monitors and assembly head because as per school authorities view, we were the one who could handle the class. This is funny but true. And we used to show this attitude in the class to impress the girls. After the class we were heroes but during the class we were zeros. And trust me it felt like humiliation, down face, no answers of the questions(punishments, but punishment was blessing, no more humiliation).Teachers used to beat us like oh wao, we turned foreigner after that. But the best part was we never failed in class and our results reflected tat we were mediocres .
We never wanted to miss the school because those 5-6 hours used to be our best, even though we rarely completed our homeworks but we never missed the school. It was the only place for us to learn something. We learnt even from our mistakes, failures or vagabond.
We didn't only learn the books there, we knew the meaning of relation, friendship and how to carry it because we were not just into books but also into extracurricular activities which enhanced the inner personality of us. I want to thank all my teachers for not burdening us with studies only and for supporting and making us understand the stuffs personally. I also want to thank my parents for not pressurizing me with books and giving me fantastic memories.
'if you also feel the same, please thank your parents'.

Our best periods were 'game periods' or the subject which we understood or of our favourite teacher. We used to be very busy and do serious conversations on the sports week because trophies were more important to us than results. 'Bright students made their class proud, but we made our school proud'๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…. Daughters of our school teachers were our favouite and everyone used to be in rush to impress them with their attitudes but trust me those bright students always won without even participating๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜. Since then we learnt to stay single, which is helping us today also.
Remember how our grandparents took us to the bus stop before time and we were able to buy toffees through our' nakhras', and then how they knew that the bus was arriving from a distance. They used to put their hands on their forehead to see whether the bus was arriving. And our memories in school bus, mostly while returning to home, sitting with girls, fighting with each other, who stole whose lunch in the class etc, are the remarkable memories. Today mostly scenario has changed, schools changed, teaching methods changed.

I personally feel privileged for those moments. This can only happen in 90s.
